Larry Moore Park Improvements

Special notice for City of Paso Robles residents — especially those living near Larry Moore Park. The city is holding a community outreach session at Larry Moore Park on Saturday, November 2nd from 10am to 11:30am. “The event invites residents to help shape the future of the neighborhood park by suggesting potential new amenities and improvements.”

The event has been been announced in an October 30th press release available at the City of Paso Robles website here:

And at the Paso Robles Daily News — here:

I’m also hearing advertisements on the radio at KPRL this morning. I encourage all residents to attend.

While campaigning and walking door to door on the streets near Larry Moore Park, I found very few that had knowledge of the city’s plans to build baseball fields at the park. Money has been allocated for this project and a consultant was hired. I assume this upcoming event is a first step in the ‘public outreach’ aspect of the consultant’s contract.

The consulting contracts were approved at the April 2, 2024 city council meeting—and awarded ‘a contract for landscape architecture design services for Larry Moore Park Redevelopment to David Volz Design in the amount of $707,498.00; awarding a contract for Larry Moore Park Redevelopment CEQA Services to SWCA Environmental Consultants to SWCA Environmental Consultants in the amount of $144,042.86; find the action exempt from CEQA under State CEQA Guidelines, §§ 15060, subd. (c)(2)-(3), 15378; and authorize the City Manager to execute both contracts, subject to any minor, technical, or non-substantive changes as approved by the City Manager and the City Attorney.’ — per City Council Meeting Minutes April 2, 2024.

According to the staff report for this item when looking for consultants for this project, the “Proposing firms were asked to consider the preliminary concepts plans as examples only, and specifically evaluate design of the site to include two lighted youth baseball/softball fields, a multi- use sports turf area, parking area, picnic areas and a basketball court. Additionally, proposing firms were asked to explore the possibility of constructing a seasonal concert shell in the southwest area of the park adjacent to the Salinas River.” — per the April 2nd staff report item, Award Park Design and Environmental Services Contracts for Larry Moore Park Redevelopment.

The following concept illustrations were also included with this item from the April 2, 2024 City Council Meeting.
